Innovation, Synergy Show Choirs Prepare for Season
One word dominated the 2014-15 show choir season in Johnston.
Last year, the Johnston High School show choirs Innovation and Synergy sang and danced their way to the top of the standings, with Innovation bringing home the grand championship trophy after every competition and ending the season ranking sixth in the nation.

Johnston show choirs perform in several competitions from Jan.-March, including Showzam!, which takes place in Johnston on Friday, Jan. 22 and Saturday, Jan. 23.
MS Mock Trial Success at State
During the district mock trial competition in late October, the Johnston middle school teams, composed of seventh and eighth graders, made club history when all four teams advanced to the state tournament.
JHS Black & White Stands Out at Nat’l Convention
Staff members from the Johnston High School newspaper, the Black & White, and the Johnston High School yearbook attended the National Scholastic Press Association Fall National High School Journalism Convention in Orlando, Fl., November 12-15.
JHS Mathletes Add Up the Victories at WSR Competition
The Johnston Math Club competed in the Waverly-Shellrock Great Plains Math League Competition on Saturday, November 7. The Math Club is coached by Julie Probst. Probst said this is one of the best finishes the Johnston Math Club – or Mathletes, as they call themselves – has ever had. Congratulations!
Middle School Mock Trial Students Primed for State
Middle school mock trial students (grades 7-8) competed with 39 teams in the district competition on October 26 and 28 at the downtown Des Moines Convention Center. Eight teams from the region will advance to state, and four of those teams are from Johnston. This is the first time in many years all four teams will advance to state. The state competition will be held on November 16-18 at the same location and features 32 teams from across the state.
“Two Heads Are Better Than One” Takes the Stage
Johnston High School thespians will present “Two Heads Are Better Than One” on October 30-31 and November 1-2; all showtimes are at 7 p.m.
Record Number of JHS Musicians Selected for All-State
The Johnston High School music program had a record number of students selected for the 2015 Iowa All-State Choir, Band and Orchestra this year. A total of 29 musicians were selected as well as six alternates. Congratulations to the following students: (more…)
JHS Marching Band Ends Successful Season
The Johnston High School Varsity Marching Band ended their Fall 2015 season on a high note, taking home first place at the Waukee Marching Invitational and a Superior Rating at the State Marching Band Contest on Saturday, October 17.
