Science Olympiad is a STEM activity for 8-12 graders at JMS and JHS. Students spend time each week after school preparing for the state competition in the spring at Coe College.
There are 23 middle school and high school events to be covered by each 15-member team. The event topics range from tests about anatomy to building bridges with certain specifications and doing lab experiments with unknown materials. These events change each year.
Johnston has up to three middle school teams and three high school teams that go to competition. High school students can earn Silver Cord hours by coaching middle school students.
