National Champions! Dragon Cheer Squad Takes Home Title
This past weekend, the Johnston Dragon competitive cheerleading squad took 1st place at the National Cheerleading Association Nationals in Dallas in the Advanced Small Gamer Performance Division. Congratulations to the squad and coaches on this great accomplishment.
Wrestling Takes 1st at Waukee Al Garrison Duals
The Johnston varsity wrestling team took home another championship on Saturday, defeating Waukee in the championship dual at the Al Garrison Dual Tournament in Waukee. The Dragons picked up dual victories vs Marshalltown, Perry, DCG, Harlan, and Waukee. Click here for complete dual results at Track Wrestling. The Dragons will be back on the mat on 1/2/2020 at Dowling Catholic. Congrats to Coach Tecklenberg and all of the coaches and wrestlers!
Girls Basketball Defeats Dowling at the Buzzer
The Johnston varsity girls basketball team defeated Dowling Catholic 72-70 on Friday at JHS. Freshman Molly Noelck came off the bench and added 12 points, including the final shot at the buzzer for the victory. Senior Kendall Nead led the way for the Dragons with 24 points and 5 rebounds. The Dragons move to 7-1 on the season and will host Urbandale after winter break on 1/3/20.
Dragons Take 1st at the Frank Baltzley Invitational
The Johnston Dragon wrestlers took home a 1st place trophy at their own Frank Baltzley Invitational. In the inaugural year of Baltzley, named after the Hall of Fame former wrestling coach, the Dragons out placed some great competition, finishing with 227.5 points just ahead of Ankeny at 188. The Dragons had 3 champions on the day: Owen Helgeson at 106, Caleb Helgeson at 160, and Jackson Brinker at 170. Complete results can be found by going to TrackWrestling.
