May 20, 2019 – Congratulations to Cari Naanep, Julia Heil and Dasha Svitashev on making the state meet that starts on Monday, May 27 in Bettendorf. Girls Basketball Advances to State Tournament
The Dragon girls varsity basketball team advanced to their 5th straight Class 5A Girls State Basketball Tournament on Tuesday after defeating Ames 72-59 at JHS. Maya McDermott poured in a game high 34 points and Kendall Nead added 15 points to lead the way for the Dragons. The Dragons will play on Monday, February 25 at 10:00 am vs CIML rival Urbandale at Wells Fargo Arena.
The winner will advance to the semifinals which will be held on Thursday, February 28 at 10:00 am and will play either WDM Valley or Iowa City, City High. Tickets cost $10 (K-Adult) and must be purchased at either the Wells Fargo box office or online at www.iowaeventscenter.com. Wrestling Advances 6 to State Meet
The Dragons will once again be well represented at the state wrestling meet, which starts this Thursday. 6 Dragons took home district titles and will continue to wrestle this year at Wells Fargo. Sophomores Rheiner Stahlbaum and Caleb Helgeson, juniors Thomas Edwards and James Edwards, and seniors Javian Rolley and Cade Moss advanced with victories on Saturday.

Girls Basketball Defeats Ankeny 65-50, Finishes Regular Season 19-2
The Johnston Dragon girls varsity basketball team finished the regular season by defeating the Ankeny Hawks at Ankeny High School on Friday, February 8 65-50. The victory moved the Dragons to 19-2 on the season as they head into regional play. Leading the way at Ankeny was junior Kendall Nead with 21 points. Maya McDermott led the way with 7 assists and Maddie Mock added 13 rebounds.
The Dragons will host Indianola in 2nd round Regional play on Saturday, February 16 at Johnston High School at 7:00 pm. The winner will play on Tuesday night to go to state. Come out and support your Dragons as they start the road to the state tournament.
