Jan. 18 Basketball Games Re-Scheduled
Due to the impending forecast on the evening of Friday, January 18, the Johnston varsity boys and girls doubleheader with Dowling Catholic has been changed to a “Varsity Only” doubleheader at Dowling on Thursday afternoon (January 17).
The girls varsity game will tip off at 4:00 p.m. and the boys varsity game will tip off 20 minutes after the girls game is completed. We are currently working on a reschedule date for the boys and girls JV games originally slated for Friday evening.
Dragon Wrestlers Place 2nd at Newton Invite, Crown 6 Champs
The Dragon varsity wrestling team traveled to Newton on Saturday for the first invite of the season. The Dragons claimed 6 titles and finishing just 1.5 points behind Iowa City West for the overall championship. Below are individual results from the tournament. The Dragons will be back on the mat on Thursday for a JV/Varsity dual at Waukee and will host their home invitational on Saturday at JHS at 10:00 am.

Varsity Dance Team Wins State!
The Johnston Dragon Varsity Dance Team had a very successful day at Wells Fargo on Friday, placing 1st fort the first time in school history in the Contemporary division while also receiving the Distinguished Academic Award. The Dragons also placed 2nd in the Lyrical division and 5th place in the Pom division. The JHS Varsity Dance Team also received the Distinguished Academic Award for having an average GPA of 3.56. The team will travel to the NDA National Championships in Orlando, FL in February!
Girls & Boys Basketball Defeat Marshalltown
Tuesday night at JHS was the home opener for the boys basketball team. The Dragons took down the Bobcats to start the year with a win, besting the Bobcats 78-50. The Dragons will be back in action on Friday as they travel to Des Moines North to take on the Polar Bears.
The varsity girls basketball team moved to 3-1 on the season with an impressive 77-17 victory over the Bobcats. Leading the way for the Dragons were Maya McDermott and Regan Nesheim, both scoring 14 for the Dragons. Freshman Anna Gossling chipped in 12 points. The Dragons will also travel to Des Moines North on Friday.

Varsity Girls Basketball Starts Season 2-1
The Dragon varsity girls basketball team defeated Des Moines Roosevelt on Saturday 78-37 to move to 2-1 on the year. Junior Maya McDermott finished with a team high 23 points, while senior Regan Nesheim and junior Maddie Mock both finished with 13 points apiece.
