Johnston Board Extends Superintendent Contract to Lunn
Following a two-month long search process and four rounds of interviews, the Johnston Board of Education voted to approve the offering of a superintendent’s contract to Dr. Corey Lunn in a special meeting on Monday, March 17, 2014.
Lunn was named a finalist for the top Johnston schools position on March 6. He then interviewed with a number of stakeholder groups and spoke at a public forum in the district on Tuesday, March 10. Board members followed up with a site visit to Lunn’s current district, Stillwater Area Public Schools (Stillwater, Minn.) on March 14.

“The board is excited to extend the offer to Dr. Lunn,” said board president Greg Dockum. “We are looking forward to him accepting our offer to become the next leader of the Johnston Community School District.”
Lunn has until Thursday, March 20 to accept the offer. During his interview, he told board members there was a clause in his current contract that would allow for mutual termination of his superintendency in Stillwater.
The board has a planned special meeting on March 20 to approve the hiring of a new superintendent and finalize the contract. If Lunn were to accept the offer, he would be asked to sign an employment contract following the March 20 meeting.
The superintendent position is being vacated due to retirement by current superintendent Clay Guthmiller. Guthmiller’s contract will end June 30, 2014 and the new superintendent is expected to take office on July 1, 2014.
