8th Grade Athletic Information – 2016-17
To:  All Incoming 2016/17 8th Grade Students and Families
From:  Josh Tobey, Assistant Athletic Director

Welcome to JMS!  We are excited for the 2016-17 school year and wanted to take a moment to provide you with information regarding 8th grade athletics.   Athletics are a great tool to learn the fundamentals of sport, build team unity, increase school spirit, and build an understanding of commitment, hard work ethic, and responsibility.  School sports are somewhat different in nature to non-school sports.  No player will be cut and any ability level is accepted in each sport.  In terms of athletic experiences, you will find 8th grade is much different than 7th grade.  Each of the sports listed below are interscholastic (play other area school teams).
Below are the sports JMS offers to 8th graders, along with approximate start dates, schedule info, and coaches contact information.  As a reminder all participants must have an updated physical and concussion form on file at JMS.  Summer is a great time to take care of these two items and get them turned in before the school year starts.  Both forms, along with all athletic information, can be found by visiting our district’s athletic website at www.johnston.k12.ia.us/athletics
Summer Camp Info – All summer camps are run through Johnston Community Education.  To view 2016 summer camp information and registration, visit https://johnston.ce.feepay.com/ and search for the sport of your choice.  All camps are optional for all sports but are a great opportunity to stay active, increase knowledge of the sport, and meet some of the coaches during the off season.
